Activity Haven hosts Snofest bingo event Friday
Snofest 2018, Peterborough’s winter carnival, runs for the month of January. Events take place throughout the city, with several happening in Northcrest Ward.
Activity Haven is hosting a Snofest Bingo Friday, Jan. 19, with ten games of bingo, a prize board of $500, and a top prize of $200.
The canteen opens at 5:30 p.m., the bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. The canteen will be serving home made chili with a roll, along with bread pudding and coffee or tea. Admission is $15 a person.
You must be 18 years of age to attend. Activity Haven is located at 180 Barnardo Ave.

Fairhaven’s Warm Your Soul Soup Contest happens Friday, Jan. 26 from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The cost is $5 per person.

Snofest Turtle Flakes and Facts is scheduled for Jan. 27 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre (OTCC), 1434 Chemong Rd., unit #4. Visitors can meet the ambassador turtles and hatchlings and the kids can do a craft at the craft table.
Snofest Pete will be there and the gift shop will be open for those wishing to buy OTCC swag. Admission is free, but donations would be welcome.

Public Swims
Winter hours for public swims are now in effect at the Allan Marshall Pool at the Trent University Athletic Centre. Swim times are offered Mondays and Tuesdays from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m., Wednesdays from 2:30 until 4 p.m., Fridays from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 until 8:30 p.m., Saturdays from 1 until 2 p.m., and Sundays from 2 until 3 p.m.

The cost to swim is $4.25 for seniors and adults, $3.25 for students and children and youth ages four to 17. Children under three years old are free. There is a family rate of $10.50.
Winter hours remain in effect until April 15.
KWIC
KWIC (Kawartha World Issues Centre) is holding their Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Volunteer Appreciation gathering Tuesday, Jan. 16 from 6:30 until 9 p.m. in the Hobbs Library at Sadleir House, 751 George St. N.
Following the AGM business portion of the meeting, there will be a special panel presentation, Organizing Against Injustice on Colonized Land. Everyone is welcome. The event is free and there will be a cash bar.
Trent Talk
Leanne Simpson, Michi Saagiig Scholar, activist and writer will introduce her new book As We Have Always Done on Jan. 15 from 7 until 9 p.m. in the Benedict Gathering Space, at Gzowski College, Trent University.
This presentation, a Pine Tree Talk, is sponsored by the Chanie Wenjack School for Indigenous Studies.
