No animals hurt as Omemee barn burns down

Excitement of the wrong kind happened New Year’s Day for Windyview Farms’ Matt and Jennie Ormiston as their large bank barn burned to the ground. Thankfully all animals were safe and there were no major injuries.

It’s times like these that the bravery of our first responders is obvious. They battled the stubborn fire in frigid temperatur­es to ensure no other buildings were involved.

Omemee Library

The grand opening of the Omemee Library will be held Jan. 13, noon-2 p.m. at 24 King St. E., the former hardware store. It will be your opportunit­y to see the new facilities.

Medical Centre

The Omemee Medical Centre is looking for interested people to sit on the Board of Directors. The Board consists of up to nine members and four will be completing their terms. The current Board has been in place since 2007 so new blood and thoughts are needed. The Board meets four evenings per year. Their goal is to bring health care services to Omemee. Community Care

Community Care of Kawartha Lakes offers many services for the residents of our area. Footcare is available to seniors and residents with special needs. An appointmen­t is needed and can be made by calling 705-879-4100 from 9 a.m.4p.m. The clinic is held at Remedy RX, 108 Kent St. W., Lindsay.

Meals on Wheels are available at a minimal cost for residents of the Omemee and Downeyvill­e area. Call 705-324-7323 for details.

A Caregiver Support Group for those assisting someone with a terminal or life limiting disease will be held at 2 Kent St. W., Jan. 10, 10-11:30 a.m. and Jan. 24, 2-3:30 p.m. Call 705-324-7323 ext 503 for details.

A Stroke Survivor Support Group will be held Jan. 11, 1:30-3:30 p.m., 65 Melbourne St. W., call ext 111.

For those newly diagnosed or undergoing cancer treatment, a Living with Cancer Support Group will be held Jan. 8, 2 p.m. at 2 Kent St. W. Call 705-879-4123.

For cancer survivors and those living with cancer, a Cancer Support Group will be held Jan. 22, 2 p.m. Call 705-879-4123.

Omemee Seniors

Omemee Seniors will meet Jan. 9, 16 and 30 at the Omemee Legion for euchre.

The cost is $2.50 per person. A potluck will be held Jan. 23, 12:30 p.m. at a cost of $3. Please bring a dish to share as well as your personal dishes and cutlery to speed cleanup.

Food bank

The Omemee Food bank is always looking for donations of non-perishable food items which can be dropped off at Omemee Foodland or various local churches.
