Local NDP delegates heading to Ottawa
Nine Peterborough-Kawartha New Democratic Party delegates are heading to the NDP’s national convention in Ottawa this week to present a motion to have the concept of sustainability added to the party’s policy manual in advance of the 2019 federal election.
The resolution calls for the NDP to examine how economic, social, cultural and environmental policies will be integrated “to ensure communities can build prosperity, well-being and an environmentally sound future in the face of climate change.”
The motion – inspired by the work of Sustainable Peterborough – is one of more than 10 that will be presented by the local delegates attending Convention 2018, according to a release from the party’s local riding association.
The event, which runs from Friday through Sunday, marks the first time national leader Jagmeet Singh addresses a Canada-wide gathering of NDP members.
Guest speakers include Andrea Horwath, Sarah Jama, Jack Saddleback, Iain McNicol, Ian Campeau, Matthew Green, Will Prosper, Dr. Monkia Dutt and
Christiane Taubira.
Policy topics include strengthening human rights and the Canadian identity, Investing in a Canada where nobody is left behind and Building on our momentum, among others.
