Kawartha basketball playoffs this afternoon

The Kawartha high school boys basketball senior and junior finals are set for Thursday afternoon at Adam Scott Collegiate following the AA and AAA playoffs on Tuesday.

At senior, the AA champion Adam Scott Lions will face the AAA champion Thomas A. Stewart Griffins at 3:30 p.m. The junior final will pit AA champion Crestwood Mustangs against the AAA champion St. Peter Saints at 2 p.m.

On Tuesday, the Griffins beat the Cobourg Collegiate Wolves 53-44 in the AAA final with Kal Sager leading the way with 18 points. The Griffins beat the I.E. Weldon Wildcats 68-47 in the semifinal with Dawson Deck and Sager sinking 16 points each. The Wolves beat St. Peter 67-52 in the other semi.

In AA action, Adam Scott beat the Holy Cross Hurricanes 53-31 in the final. In semifinal play, Adam Scott beat St. Mary 55-22 while Holy Cross edged Lindsay Collegiate 61-60.

In junior AAA play, St. Peter beat I.E. Weldon 66-32 in the final. The Saints beat CCI in the semifinal but a score was unavailabl­e. I.E. Weldon beat TASSS 40-31 in the other semi.

In junior AA play, Crestwood eked past Adam Scott 42-40 in the final. In semifinal play, Crestwood beat Holy Cross 61-31 while Adam Scott defeated LCVI 67-28.

Saints, Mustangs win in boys hockey

Kyle Jones scored a hat trick to lead the Crestwood Mustangs past the Holy Cross Hurricanes 7-4 in Kawartha high school boys hockey Tuesday afternoon at the Kinsmen Civic Centre.

Aaron Bradshaw scored twice while Evan Downer and Jake Herron had a goal and assist each. Devon Foote and Nik Skilton had two assists with singles to Kolby Scott and Eric Smith.

Bayley Role scored twice for Holy Cross while Jared Delaney had a goal and two assists and Owen Butler one goal. Nolan Marino, Mason Walker and Cam Comtois added assists.

The Haliburton Highlands Redhawks beat the Cobourg Collegiate Wolves 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon.

Trevor Turner scored a pair of goals for Haliburton with singles to Owen Smith, Owen Gilbert and Devyn Prentice. Dryden Minifie scored twice for CCI with singles to Jack Dobie and Josh Sainthill.

On Monday, the St. Peter Saints beat the Campbellfo­rd District Flames 3-1. Scoring details were unavailabl­e.
