Potters, woodturners, artisans help YWCA
For the last few months, the Kawartha Potters Guild, the Kawartha Woodturners Guild and the Artisans Centre Peterborough have been busy creating over 200 bowls to donate to the Empty Bowls fundraiser for YWCA programs to feed the hungry through their JustFood and the Crossroads Shelter’s Nutritional Wellbeing Program for local women and their children. The event will take place at The Venue, 286 George St. N. on Feb. 23, with early-bird seating at 11:30 a.m., and regular seating from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., at a cost $35 per person.
“We are thrilled to once again donate bowls to the YWCA’S Empty Bowls,” says Lillian Forester, past board chair of the Kawartha Potters Guild. “This is always a fun event for the potters and woodturners as we watch guests make the difficult decision about which bowl to choose – there are so many choices and all hand-crafted with love.”
Members of the craft guilds will be volunteering at The Venue to help guests with their selection and wrap their new bowl to take home. Many local restaurants and business have donated food, featuring soups, salads, breads and desserts.
This year, the YWCA is offering a number of different options, including a tax receipt in lieu of a hand-crafted bowl. Also, people can order a “To-Go Lunch” with either a bowl or a tax receipt with pickup at the YWCA offices.
Tickets can be ordered at www. ywcagifts.com, or by calling 705743-3526.
