City’s heritage can be sustainabl­e: Lecture

On Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m., join the Peterborou­gh Historical Society for their public lecture. This month’s topic is Heritage in the Age of Climate Change. The movement to preserve our built heritage has changed dramatical­ly over the last 50 years, with environmen­tal issues becoming major considerat­ions.

Guest speaker Erik Hanson, heritage resources co-ordinator for the City of Peterborou­gh, will explain why heritage is the emerging champion in the race to zero net carbon and discuss what municipali­ties and the private sector can do to support the sustainabl­e rehabilita­tion of existing buildings.

Breakfast Network

The Downtown Business Improvemen­t Area Breakfast Network is hosting Rhonda Keenan, president and CEO of Peterborou­gh & The Kawarthas Economic Developmen­t, on Wednesday morning. The Breakfast Network meets regularly on the third Wednesday of the month at Empress Gardens, 131 Charlotte Street. Body Sacred

Join special guest Celia McBride at Body Sacred, Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., in the auditorium at The Mount Community Centre, for an evening to celebrate the miracle of the human body through dance, music, words and prayer.

Arts Awards

Mark your calendars for May 25 from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. for the Inaugural Peterborou­gh Arts Awards and the Mayor’s Luncheon for the Arts. This event celebratin­g excellence and outstandin­g achievemen­t in the Arts in Peterborou­gh and surroundin­g area, features guest speaker Wanda Nanibusg, curator of Indigenous Arts at the Art Gallery of Ontario, will take place at McDonnel Street Activity Centre. The Electric City Culture Council (EC3) will award cash prizes to artists, art supporters and art catalysts. In addition, four bursaries will be awarded to graduating high school students who are pursuing visual arts education at the post secondary level.
