First aid programs offered through St. John Ambulance

St. John Ambulance has scheduled several first aid courses for March, happening at the Peterborou­gh Lions community centre, 347 Burnham Street.

In addition, they have added classes in Babysittin­g Basics, running during the March break. Here’s a look at the lineup.

Standard First Aid: The standard first aid course is provides 13 hours of comprehens­ive first aid training, including CPR for adults and automated external defibrilla­tion (AED).

Classes in standard first aid with level A CPR are slated for March 6 to March 7; March 21 to March 22 and March 27 to March 28 at the Lions centre. Times are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Standard first aid with level C CPR has an extra hour of training and includes training for adult, child and infant CPR This class has the same dates and locations. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Emergency First Aid: The emergency first aid course provides 6.5 hours of basic first aid training with CPR and AED procedures.

Emergency first aid classes with level A CPR happen March 6; March 21 and March 27 at the Lions Centre. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Emergency first aid with level C CPR and AED runs on the same dates. This class runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you can’t attend day courses, SJA also offers weekend and evening sessions at their facility on the lower level of Applewood Manor, 1500 Lansdowne St. W.

Weekend class dates for standard first aid are: March 3 to March 4; March 10 to March 11; March 17 to March 18 and March 24 to March 25. at Applewood. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.

Weekend courses in emergency first aid are slated for March 3; March 10; March 17 and March 24 at Applewood.

Basic Rescuer Course: Ideal for people who want general or workplace CPR training. Attendees learn about cardiac emergencie­s, two person CPR and choking or stroke for adults, infants or children.

Do you need to re-certify your current standard first aid certificat­e? There is a standard first aid renewal class slated for March 26 at the Lions centre, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m for level A or 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Level C.

There are four Babysittin­g Basics classes that happen during the March break. Dates are March 9; March 13; March 14 and March 15 All sessions run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Lions Centre.

The workshop is geared to teens and tweens 11 to 15 years old and develops skills in safety rules, responding to emergencie­s and leadership.

Students learn How to care for infants and toddlers, caring for sick or injured children, and handling emergencie­s.

All first aid training and certificat­es are valid for three years. For details or to register, contact SJA at 705-745-0331.
