Will the city buy out unhappy homeowners?

-

County residents on Greenwood Road want the City of Peterborough to buy out their properties because those residents don’t like the noise from the increased traffic at the airport. (Examiner, Feb. 16 ).

These residents have declined to accept an earlier buyout offer from the city and are asking for more.

If the city intends to pay top dollar to these residents because noise levels have increased, I hope they will consider buying my city property on Fairbairn Street too.

When I bought my house on Fairbairn Street. it was a quiet residential street, but since the city has re-aligned Lily

Lake Road and Towerhill Road, and placed additional traffic lights all along Chemong Road to impede the free flow of traffic there, Fairbairn Street has become a popular shortcut route with enormous increase in traffic.

This traffic might be somewhat relieved if The Parkway was constructed as designed, but it doesn’t look as if council has the guts to do that.

Hopefully the city can see that as their actions have greatly increased the traffic past my door and decreased my enjoyment of living in my home, they will be willing to offer me a top-dollar buyout for my home too.

The least they could do is offer relief on my city taxes.
