If you are interested in the happenings at City Hall and throughout City of Kawartha Lakes and aren’t receiving informatio­n there are some access points. If you have access to a computer you can log into kawarthala­kes.ca/subscribe to sign up various updates, notices of meetings etc. You can also download the Pingstreet app on your smartphone, choosing CKL as a location.

Accesibili­ty

There will be a workshop about accessibil­ity in the CKL and the five year plan March 21, 7-8:30 p.m. at Coronation Hall. All are welcome to attend and offer input.

Omemee Blooms

Omemee Blooms Garden Club will meet at Trinity United Church, Feb. 24 for a social and potluck beginning at 11:30 a.m. Cathy Hooper will speak on “Grow your Garden and Eat it too.” For informatio­n call Carol at 705-799-6282.

Happy Wanderers

The Happy Wanderers, a group under the Community Volunteers Income Tax Program will be at Trinity United Church, April 13, 9 a.m.-noon, 1-3 p.m. to complete income tax returns for low income residents, at no cost. If your income is below $30,000 for singles or $40,000 for couples, you are eligible for the service.

Youth Curling

Youth curling is every Sunday 1-3 p.m. at the Omemee Curling Centre, James St. Youth ages 10-18 are welcome to come and try out the sport, no experience necessary. Bring a pair of clean indoor shoes and a helmet, bicycle helmets are acceptable. Be sure to dress warmly including gloves. Cost is $5 per session. For informatio­n call the Centre at 705-799-7156.

Effective Speaking

Royal Canadian Legion Branch 497, Omemee will hold its annual Effective Speaking competitio­n for young residents, Feb. 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend this evening of excellent speaking skills from students, Gr. 1-11. There is no admission charge.

Community Care

Community Care of Kawartha Lakes offers many services for the residents of our area. Footcare is available to seniors and residents with special needs. An appointmen­t is needed and can be made by calling 705-879-4100 from 9 a.m.- 4p.m. The clinic is held at Remedy RX, 108 Kent St. W., Lindsay. Dates for upcoming sessions are Feb. 20 and 27, March 6, 8, 13, 20 and 27.

Meals on Wheels are available at a minimal cost for residents of the Omemee and Downeyvill­e area. Call 705-324-7323 for details.

A Caregiver Support Group for those assisting someone with a terminal or life limiting disease will be held at 2 Kent St. W., Feb. 28 and March 28, 2-3:30 p.m., March 14, 2-3:30 p.m. Call 705324-7323 ext 503 for details.

A Stroke Survivor Support Group will be held March 8, 1:303:30 p.m., 65 Melbourne St. W., call ext 111.

For those newly diagnosed or undergoing cancer treatment, a Living with Cancer Support Group will be held Mar. 12, 2 p.m. at 2 Kent St. W. Call 705879-4123.

For cancer survivors and those living with cancer, a Cancer Support Group will be held Feb. 26 and March 26, 2 p.m. Call 705879-4123.
