Feeling a little overwhelmed when it comes to picking the right paint colour for your home knowing you need to get it right the first time? Join Jill Carty of Jill Carty Designs for a free “Choosing Paint Colours Workshop” on Tuesday evening, Feb. 27 at the Asphodel Norwood Community Centre, 88 Alma St. from 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. Jill will be offering a free evening of helpful hints and advice so you can choose your own paint colours with confidence.

You will learn about light and colour, undertones, navigating the seemly endless array of paint chips and samplers and about exterior colours. You are requested to register for the workshop by visiting jillcartydesigns.com or call Jill at 705-7680053

Jill Carty and her husband Jim are recent transplants to Norwood and were immediately impressed with how friendly and welcoming the towns-folks have made them. They also happen to be included in the village’s newest group of entrepreneurs. A couple of years ago the couple decided it was time for a change of direction in their work lives.

Jill decided to pursue her passion for interior design becoming an accredited decor, design and staging specialist starting her own business aptly called Jill Carty Designs. Jill sees her strengths in what she calls redesign, taking a realistic approach to her projects by working with what her clients have instead of reinventing the wheel, although she is apparently very good at that too especially if you are desiring a brand new look or space.

Jill refers to her husband Jim rather endearingly as “Mr. Fussy” because of his attention to detail. Jim who apparently has always a bit of a do it yourselfer, forms to other side of the business specializing in painting and renovations. Perhaps you are looking to sell your house and want to appeal to more potential buyers with a bit of a facelift or maybe your home is just looking a little tired and it is time for a change, give Jill call.

Skating Club hosts annual Ice Show

The Norwood & District Skating Club is hosting their annual ice show on Sunday, February 25 at the Asphodel Norwood Community Centre starting at 2 p.m.

With an obvious nod to the clubs 50th anniversary this year, the 2018 theme is “Back to the Future”. Club members will mark the occasion by “skating back 50 years” recreating several performances from years past, some even have the original skaters taking part.

The annual ice show gives the clubs approximately 80 young skaters the opportunity to showcase the new or improved skills that they have developed during the season in front of their friends and family as well as the general public. The show also helps the skaters by giving them the valuable experience of performing in front an audience, a useful skill for many aspects of life not just skating.

Traditionally the ice show includes a special guest performance, this year the club’s guests will be “Platinum Blades” an adult synchronised skating group from Peterborough.

The doors will open at 1 p.m., spectators are invited to partake of the traditional bake sale and purchase a few raffle tickets. Tickets are $10 at the door, come out and to see some of the great talent we have in the community and help the club celebrate five decades of skating.

World Day of Prayer Services

The Norwood United Church, (Highway 7 at the lights) will be hosting this year’s community World Day of Prayer Service on Friday, March 2 at 1:30 p.m. The 2018 service was prepared by the women of Suriname with the theme “All God’s Creation is Very Good!” Everyone is welcome to attend.

International Women’s Day

International Woman’s Day is March 8 and Counciller Debbie Lynch will be hosting the “2nd Annual International Women’s Day” event in Asphodel-Norwood in the Millennium Room at the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre (88 Alma St.) from 6:30 to 9 p.m. This year the guest speaker will be Hiawatha First Nation Chief, Laurie Carr. The inaugural event in 2017 was a great success and there is already considerable interest for this year’s event. The 2018 theme is ‘Press for Progress’ and for this reason, the event will be open to everyone - men included. Light refreshments will be served.
