First responders to battle for cup
Teams of emergency responders will battle it out in the ultimate fitness challenge for the second annual First Responders Cup on Saturday, April 14 at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre.
Hosted by faculty member Jodi van Engen and students in Fleming College’s Pre-Service Firefighter, Paramedic, Customs Border Services and Police Foundations programs, the event features sixperson co-ed teams given eight different first responder fitness challenges to complete between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., states a college press release. The team with the fastest cumulative time over all eight circuits wins.
The event is a fundraiser for the Canadian Mental Health Association, Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge Branch (CMHA KPR). Last year the event raised $5,500.
The students are looking for teamstoenterthefitnesschallenge. The cost is $300 to register. To register visit https://raceroster.com/ events/2018/16057/2nd-annualfirst-responders-cup. Students initiated the First Responders Cup after taking a mental health class that discussed Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder in the policing profession. The students wanted to eliminate stigma around the topic and help bring awareness to the community, states the release.
They are encouraging spectators to come and watch and learn more about mental health services in the community.
