Timbermen win, lose

-

The Peterborough Timbermen picked up a big 16-13 win over the Oshawa Outlaws Friday night but couldn’t follow it up Saturday losing to the Six Nations Snipers 9-7, both in Oshawa.

On Friday, the Timbermen fought back from a 4-0 deficit with seven goals in the second quarter. The lead changed hands a few times but two shorthanded goals on the same penalty kill midway through the fourth quarter sparked the Timbermen.

“We needed that,” said defenceman Brett Coons. “Everything was clicking. From the goalie out we were all working together, talking on ‘D’ and the offence was clicking. It was a great team effort.”

Joel Matthews and Chris Attwood each scored four goals and an assist. Ryan Masters picked up the win in goal. Doug Utting had two goals and an assist, Mark Vradenburg a goal and four assists, Colton Armstrong and Nick Karam a goal and assist while Brodie Tutton, Rylee McKinnon and Zack Thompson also scored. Fred Hartley had two assists, Kaleb Bingley, Cam Crowe and Blake Kenny singles. On Saturday, missing Matthews and Attwood, Cole McWilliams was a bright spot for the Timbermen with a pair of goals and three assists. Hartley had two goals and an assist while Joe Hall, Thompson and Shane Francis also scored. Blake Kenny had two assists with singles to Dan

Michel, Riley Campbell and Vradenburg.

In other ALL action, the St. Catharines ShockWave defeated the Whitby Steelhawks 13-12 in overtime.

That means that the Timbermen, with eight points, are tied for third place with both St. Catharines and Whitby. The Timbermen have five games left.
