New Tim’s planned for Parkhill Rd. W.
A new Tim Hortons with a drivethru is being proposed for a residential subdivision in the west end of Peterborough.
Jackson Creek Meadows is a new subdivision off Parkhill Rd. W., just west of Wallis Dr.
The only access road into the neighbourhood from Parkhill Rd. is Chandler Cres. The Tim Hortons is planned for the northeast corner of those two roadways.
The property is also fronted to the north by Florence Dr., another new residential street.
On Monday at City Hall, councillors will be asked to review the plan and vote on whether to allow it.
Although city staff has already approved the arrangement of driveways, parking and buildings on the property (including a separate plaza), council has the final say.
A city staff report recommends that councillors go along with the plan. It states that a traffic study was submitted with the site plan application that offered no evidence the drive-thru will cause congestion.
“The study concluded that the proposed development can adequately be accommodated by the existing traffic network with minimal impacts to the adjacent public roadways,” the report states.
The report also states that two driveways for the Tim Hortons are proposed: one from Chandler Cresc. and one from Florence Dr.
“The proposed driveway entrances allow for decent site circulation of traffic, it being noted that the site has been designed in a manner that will not result in the queuing of vehicles on the abutting roads for the drive-thru,” the report states.
Earlier this week, council gave final approval for a Starbucks with a drive-thru next to Shoppers Drug Mart on Chemong Rd.
Only Coun. Diane Therrien voted against it, saying she’s concerned that the drive-thru will bring long lineups of idling cars as well as traffic snarl-ups on Chemong Rd.
But Coun. Andrew Beamer said other cities such as Hamilton have investigated the possibility of banning drive-thrus and have found that it can’t be done.
City councillors meet at 5:15 p.m. at City Hall on Monday evening.
