Trudeau trip to India is an embarrasment
While MP Maryam Monsef searches to expand on passport updates, allow me to comment on her boss’s recent travels to India.
I didn’t think Justin Trudeau could have embarrassed us more than he did touring China, but our prime minister proves me wrong.
Indian politicians of any stature stayed away from Trudeau.
According to a Punjabi acquaintance of mine, Trudeau family vacation pictures are trending quite large on Indian social media. These cheery Canucks are some kind of a hit there.
I think it’s because the Trudeaus seem to emphasize appearance, at least in the physical sense.
The metaphysical is a different matter. Physically, these are beautiful family photos.
The Trudeaus have been posing in front of breathtaking backdrops. They’ve chosen period locale apparel to articulate the experience.
I don’t know how that fits into representing Canadians in the metaphysical sense. My Punjabi acquaintance rightly points out that many Indian-Canadians have little stomach for Indian politics.
There is no credible reason to have someone convicted of attempted murder in a Canadian court, invited to dinner with our prime minister by someone in Trudeau’s caucus.
It should be added Jaspal Atwal got access to an earlier event, presumably that’s where the media got photos of the convicted man posing with Sophie Gregoire Trudeau.
I’m starting to understand why Indian politicians are avoiding our leader.
Still, India shouldn’t have let Atwal onto their territory.
Let’s not forget, the convicted’s travels also start from Canada.
The attempted murder happened in 1987. The victim was a sitting Indian cabinet minister attending his nephew’s wedding in British Columbia. His car was shot up in an ambush, he was hit by five bullets. Thankfully, he survived.
