Keene voters part of newly-reshaped riding

- KeeneNews@nexicom.net PAT MARCHEN KEENE

We will not know for a while if Peterborough South, the remote northern territory of the riding of Northumberland-Peterborough South, will see any candidates campaigning in the upcoming provincial election, but here is a chance to let them know what issues concern you, in case they cannot make it this far.

The Rural Ontario Institute is conducting a survey to learn what is important to rural voters and will use the information to generate questions for the political parties. The survey is online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/ ruralelectionpriorities2018.

Unfortunately, today (Monday) is the last day you can fill it out, so don’t miss this chance.

Otherwise, you will have to take the Grand Tour to find a candidate to let them know what you think.

John Graham Weir journals 1881 March 3, Thurs.

Very pleasant today, not thawing much. I went to town for some lumber to make a sheep rake. Three lambs this morning when I went in the sheep house.

1881 March 4

Tremendous storm of snow all last night and all today. Three lambs this morning, smart and strong.

1882 March 4

I walked to town today in company with my neighbour’s daughter. The roads are good for wagons, splendid for farmers to draw out their grain and the prices are very good. Spring wheat is worth $1.21 and peas are fetching as high as .73. Potatoes sell at .90 per bag.
