Iranian dinner served at One Roof Diner

- NAOMI STOCK TOWN naomi.stock@gmail.com

It was an Iranian feast on the lunch menu recently at the One Roof Diner, with Nasrin Yari as chef.

Yari arrived in Peterborough from Iran with her family in 2015, as part of a refugee sponsorship program. She has been volunteering with the team from Emmanuel United Church, who prepare and serve lunch every Tuesday at the One Roof Diner.

The diner, which is located at St. John’s Anglican Church, offers a free meal each weekday to members of the Peterborough Community.

The Iranian Feast featured Shaami Kabab, a dish of meat, potato and onions; basmati rice; Ash, a soup of beans, lentils, vegetables and spices; salad; fruit and sweets. According to a member of the Emmanuel United Church team, “the guests at the One Roof Diner enjoyed the food and were overflowing with compliments.” The team “thanks Nasrin for her many volunteer hours over the past year and her wonderful cooking skills.” Given the positive response to the menu, the team is planning another Iranian Feast in the future.
