Free, family-friendly community dinner planned

Are you interested in meeting new people in your community? On Feb. 28 there will be a free community dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lakefield United Church, located at 47 Regent Street. The dinner is entitled We Belong: Kina Dibendaago­zwag and is hosted by the Nourish Project, the Lovesick Lake Native Women’s Associatio­n, and the Ontario Trillium Foundation. Families are welcome and the event is wheelchair accessible. Register before Feb. 26 at noon by phoning 705-652-8787.

Public consultati­on

There will be a public consultati­on for the Peterborou­gh Utilities Inc. Dam 24 Hydro Project. Dam 24 is on the Otonabee River in Selwyn Township. The meeting will be on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre, located at 20 Concession St. in Lakefield. There will be posters detailing key aspects of the project and members of the project team will be available to answer questions.

Community care

There will be tech support for seniors on Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at 40 Rabbit Street in Lakefield. The workshop will be put on by Tek Savvy Seniors and costs $5 per person. Half of the proceeds will support Community Care. Bring your device with you. Questions will be answered from 1 to 1:45 p.m. and then from 2 to 3 p.m. there will be assistance with iPads, smartphone­s and laptops. For more informatio­n, call 705927-0223.

St. John the Baptist

Lenten Lunches happen on Thursdays during Lent from 12 to 1 p.m. at the church. This Thursday’s speaker will be Chris Jones from Lakefield Youth Unlimited. Admission is $5 per person.

There will be an Irish Music Concert on March 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the church featuring award-winning mother and son duo Saskia Tomkins and Oisin Hannigan. Tickets cost $20 each and are available at the church on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Proceeds will support the 2018 Guatemala Mission Trip. Phone 705-652-8302 for more informatio­n.

Rural Women’s Summit

All are welcome to attend the first annual Rural Women’s Summit: Empowering Women & Girls in Peterborou­gh-Kawartha. The summit will be on Friday from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Buckhorn Community Centre, located at 1782 Lakehurst Rd. The evening keynote speaker will be MP Maryam Monsef. Career Fair

There will be a career fair on Thursday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Lakefield Legion, located at 10 Nicholls St. in Lakefield. This is a free event for job seekers of all ages, employers and community agencies. For additional informatio­n, please contact Debbie at 705740-2577 ext. 5212.
