Guns, cellphones and an obsession with both

-

Guns and cellphones are deadly. Cellphones, you say? Yes, stay with me on this one. A whole generation has grown up with a cellphone in their hands. It is a part of them, like an arm or a leg. They will have a nervous breakdown if they are deprived of their cellphones. This is similar to American citizens and their “right to bear arms.” Children are practically raised with a gun in their hands. It becomes part of them. They feel naked without one. The wild west is alive and well! The “redneck” mentality of having a “bigger stick” (to beat you with) is rampant. Will the NRA ever accept gun control? Presently, it does not look likely. Back to the cellphone scene. If you take away a young person’s cellphone you would likely hear: “Who will I communicate with? What is my friend doing right now? I can’t tell them what I am doing. I can’t talk to anyone face to face. I won’t know what to say or how to say it.” Now, to get to the heart of why cellphones are deadly - Don’t ever chastise cellphone users for texting while driving. They just cannot picture the carnage they can cause by texting while driving. REALLY? How, with all sincerity, can a person see brake lights go on or a person walk out in front of their vehicle or any other obstacle when looking down at a keyboard and punching the letters? It is common sense regarding keeping your eyes on the road and ignoring incoming messages (they can wait). To argue that point, then you must be an idiot. The last sentence can be said for arguments against gun control also. James Baldwin Omemee
