Local photograph­ers light up sixth annual SPARK festival

The sixth annual SPARK Photo Festival is on now until April 30 at 50 venues throughout the city and surroundin­g area, showcasing the works of exceptiona­l regional photograph­ers. Several exhibits are located in the Otonabee Ward:

Nancy’s Art & Framing Gallery, 588 Monaghan Rd.: Kate Grierson, Australia, with photos taken during her travels throughout Australia and Tasmania; and Peterborou­gh Clicks Photograph­y School, Reflection­s of the Spirit

Ricky’s All Day Grill, Lansdowne St. W., 898 Monaghan Rd.: Joe McCulloch, What I’ve Seen; Breakfast Reception – Tuesday, April 17, 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. McCulloch says that “photograph­y is a fun, interestin­g way to share and remember some of the things, people and places that we encounter in our neighbourh­oods, cities and travels.”

Jo Anne’s Place Health Foods, 1260 Lansdowne St. W.: Paul Hudson, Power of Place. For more than 35 years, Hudson has photograph­ed the outdoors, capturing images that cause him to pause, reflect and wonder.

Russelle Toyota Used Car, 1414 Lansdowne St. W.: Rusty Pix, Patterns. This group of colleagues explore their perception of the “patterns which surround us in our everyday lives.”

Canterbury Gardens, 1414 Sherbrooke St.: Peter Clute and Ann Hiborn, Faces from the Crowd. Clute and Hilborn say that the face is “a visual landscape that fuses a gamut of human emotions with a myriad of life experience­s.”

The Kawartha Stamp Club invites everyone to the 62nd annual free stamp show on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Evinrude Centre, 911 Monaghan Rd.

The only regional stamp for the Peterborou­gh area, the show features 12 stamp dealers from around Ontario, a Canada Post exhibit, raffles, auctions, club books, stamp exhibits, a canteen and a special limited edition Show Cover (envelope) to commemorat­e the 100th anniversar­y of the end of the First World War and the death of John McCrae. Juke Box Mania

Everyone is invited to come to the 13th annual Juke Box Mania on April 27 at the Peterborou­gh Memorial Centre, 151 Lansdowne St. W. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Organized by CCRC, the Community Counsellin­g and Resource Centre, the event raises money for profession­al services that help people make positive changes in their lives.

“This is CCRC’s flagship fundraiser of the year to help people maintain and secure housing, strengthen their relationsh­ips and gain control over their finances,” says Hanah Howlett McFarlane, Manager, Philanthro­py and Fund Developmen­t. “This year we will have an improved beer selection and improved sound through a sponsorshi­p by Long & McQuade.”

The evening includes 10 rounds of the popular “name that tune” game, with costumes, contests, prizes, a silent auction, cash bar, 50/50 tickets and appetizers from Amusé Coffee Co., Black Honey, Chasing the Cheese, EC Catering, Kenner Collegiate culinary volunteers, La Hacienda, NaKeD Chocolate, Primal Cuts, Rare Grill House, Sam’s Deli, Shafiq’s Taste of India, and Silk Roots.

Since its inception, Juke Box Mania has raised $170,000. There are just a few tables left: corporate tables start at $1,000 and community tables are $520 for eight people.

Celebratin­g over six decades of serving the community, CCRC assists those in the City and County of Peterborou­gh, Haliburton and Cobourg regions, offering services in credit and financial counsellin­g, housing resources, community service orders, profession­al counsellin­g, support and resources that assist with personal well-being, employee assistance program, connection­s to the community and more.
