LAKEFIELD — Saturday night's Game 6 in the Lakefield ChiefsStayner Siskins Schmalz Cup semifinal series has been postponed until Tuesday due to this weekend's ice storm.

The postponement was announced late Saturday morning;

Game 6 will now be held on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre.

Game 7 if necessary goes Thursday at 8:10 p.m. at the Stayner Memorial Arena.

The Chiefs are now up 3-2 on the Siskins in their quest to advance to the Schmalz Cup championship series after a 3-1 win Thursday night in Stayner.

"The first period felt like a lot like game one. We were feeling one another out," Chiefs head coach Jamie Arcand said.

Stayner may have opened the scoring but, Arcand says, the Chiefs really started playing their style of game in the second period. The Chiefs scored twice in the second period, the the first was on the power play and was scored by Ethan McDougall and the second coming short handed scored by the team captain Aaron Vatcher.

Taking only two penalties the entire game, the talk staff had about staying out of the box after Thursday's penalty-heavy game seem to resonate with the players.

One player on Stayner however was not able to maintain their composure, flipping the puck up into the netting after the final buzzer went. Austin Fischer of the Siskins got a game misconduct and cannot play in Game 6 because of the suspension.

When asked if momentum would be a factor in game six Arcand said that they have felt the momentum has been going their way ever since Matt Carroll came back into the lineup and that after winning three straight after being down 2-0 in the series and heading back home the momentum will definitely be a factor going into the game.

Arcand says he hopes they can end it on Tuesday and he thinks that the players do too as neither really want to have to travel all the way back to Stayner to finish the series.

On Friday, prior to the decision to postpone the game, Arcand said he could understand why they might need to postpone Game 6.

"The news of the Humboldt broncos is still fresh in everyone's minds, and I know weather wasn't a really a big factor in it, but I would get it if they wanted to err on the side of caution."

The added day of rest from a postponement would probably do both teams some good as the series has been physical and a lot of players on both teams are pretty banged up, Arcand said Friday.
