Toronto Rock eliminated from playoff contention

With just two weeks left in the National Lacrosse League regular season, no Eastern Division teams have clinched a playoff spot, but a loss over the weekend by the Toronto Rock (7-9) has knocked them out of contention.

The Buffalo Bandits (8-8) can clinch a playoff berth with a win and a New England Black Wolves (8-8) loss this weekend.

The Rochester Knighthawk­s (9-7) can clinch a playoff berth with a win. They can also clinch a home playoff game with a win and a Buffalo loss.

The Georgia Swarm (9-7) have a bye this weekend and will attempt to clinch a spot with two games on the final weekend of league play.

Seven-point game for Cattoni

CALGARY – Peterborou­gh Laker Holden Cattoni had five goals and two assists and Christian Del Bianco made 45 saves as the Calgary Roughnecks topped the Buffalo Bandits 16-9 in National Lacrosse League action Saturday.

Calgary (7-9) secured a playoff spot late last month while the Bandits (8-8) missed a chance to separate themselves from the pack in the tight East Division. Buffalo remained tied for third in the division with New England.

Laker Shawn Evans had a goal and an assist for the Bandits while former Curtis Dickson scored two goals and added four assists for Calgary.

Two goals for Self

DENVER — Peterborou­gh Lakers Brad Self had two goals and Robert Hope one assist in a 10-6 Colorado Mammoth loss to the New England Black Wolves on Saturday night at the Pepsi Center in Denver.

Hat trick for Currier

TORONTO - Joe Resetarits had three goals and four assists to lead the Rochester Knighthawk­s past the Toronto Rock 14-11 on Friday in National Lacrosse League action, eliminatin­g the Rock from playoff contention.

Peterborou­gh’s Josh Currier and Cody Jamieson also had hat tricks for Rochester (9-7), while Kyle Jackson scored and added four helpers. Peterborou­gh’s Cory Vitarelli, Paul Dawson, Brad Gillies and Quinn Powless chipped in as well.

Peterborou­gh Laker Matt Vinc made 41 saves for the win.

Laker Adam Jones had a pair of goals for the Rock.

Rush beat Stealth 20-10

LANGLEY, B.C. - Robert Church scored four goals and set up five more and Mark Matthews had 10 points with seven assists as the Saskatchew­an Rush doubled up the Vancouver Stealth (2-14) 20-10 on Friday in National Lacrosse League action.

Vancouver, coached by Peterborou­gh’s Jamie Batley, is winless in eight home games this season.

Rush goaltender Adam Shute made 33 saves. Eric Penney and Tye Belanger combined on 43 saves for the Stealth.

Staats has 8-point night

SASKATOON - Lyle Thompson scored five times and Randy Staats had four goals and four assists as the Georgia Swarm

(9-7) downed the Saskatchew­an Rush (13-4) 16-10 on Saturday in National Lacrosse League action.

Peterborou­gh Laker Evan Kirk and Tyler Carlson combined on 36 saves for Saskatchew­an.
