City of Kawartha Lakes OPP investigating after body found at fire
City of Kawartha Lakes OPP are investigating after a body was found after a house fire early Tuesday morning on Aino Beach Road, about 60 kilometres west of Peterborough.
The coroner’s office removed the body Tuesday afternoon.
Police cordoned off an area around a black Ford van at the scene.
Emergency responders were called to the Washburn Islandarea house, south of Little Britain, in the former Mariposa Township at about 5:09 a.m. Tuesday.
City of Kawartha Lakes Fire and Rescue Deputy Fire Chief Terry Jones said the investigation is being handled by the OPP and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office.
“Any further information will be provided by the OPP,” Jones said.
OPP have not released any details.
A neighbour told Kawartha Lakes This Week the black van was parked near the scene since 4 a.m. and that the passenger window was smashed out.
OPP at the scene would not confirm if the vehicle is connected to the investigation, but that section of the roadway was taped off later Tuesday morning and treated as a crime scene.
The neighbour also said they saw what appeared to be a dead body on the lawn of the residence.
A blue tarp could be seen on the lawn of the home.
A section of Aino Beach Road was closed except to local traffic.
