NDP response helps local voter make her choice

-

As climate change initiatives are a priority for me in choosing a candidate in our upcoming election, I did a little investigative reporting and contacted Sean Conway to get a better idea of where he stands on this issue.

I contacted him via Messenger on his Facebook page and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly he responded — within five minutes of me sending my questions!

Now that’s a man who thinks quickly on his feet! He is also very accessible to the public. I am impressed!

I asked Sean the following questions: 1. What will you do to address climate change in Ontario to reduce our carbon footprint as soon as you are elected?

2. What is your specific plan to increase renewable energy in Ontario as soon as you are elected?

Here is his response:

“Hi Tricia! Thanks for your questions. We support Ontario’s current price on carbon via cap-and-trade, however we feel that this system is sometimes a financial consideration for smaller business and municipalities, so we would like to see revenues from cap-and-trade going back to green energy retrofits for homes and buildings (such as solar panels to increase renewable energy) as well as using revenues as incentives for municipalities to use in green public transportation (such as electric buses and vehicles), green technology and helping along average people in the fight against climate change (with grants, rebates and incentives). Hope that answers most of your questions — Let me know if it didn’t! -SC”

The reason that climate change initiatives are my number one priority in choosing a candidate in this election is because climate change initiatives are the solution to all of the other issues that people are concerned about — the economy, affordable housing, job creation, and health care.

Green housing will boost the economy and create jobs and green transportation will reduce cancer-causing fuel emissions so that less health care will be needed in Ontario.

Sean, my man, you have my vote!

Tricia Clarkson, Fortye Dr.
