Trent’s graduating class ready for ceremonies this week
Trent University’s newest graduates will come together with their friends and family to celebrate the 2018 convocation ceremonies next week.
The graduates will walk across the stage to accept their degrees from June 5 to June 8 at the main Peterborough campus. Graduates from the Durham GTA campus will have their own convocation at the Ajax Convention Centre on June 12.
Three new master’s programs in Education, Water Science and Social Work, will have their inaugural graduating classes cross the stage to receive their degrees for the 2018 convocation.
Over the four days, 1,827 new graduates will have the opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments over the past academic year at eight ceremonies that will split the graduates by their field of study.
There will be two convocation ceremonies each day, with one beginning at 10 a.m. and the other during the afternoon at 2 p.m. For anyone not able to attend the ceremonies in person, Trent will have a live stream of the ceremonies on their website.
Trent University will also be awarding four honourary degrees to recognize individuals who have made an extraordinary contribution to Canadian society.
Sylvia Maracle, executive director of the Ontario Federation of Indigenous Friendship Centres, and architect Stephen Teeple, who designed the physics building, student services building and childcare centre at Trent University, will both receive an honorary degree.
George Cope, president and CEO of BCE Inc. and Bell Canada will receive an honourary degree for his leadership in #BellLetsTalk initiative. Max Eisen, a Holocaust survivor, educator and author will also be presented an honourary degree at the Durham GTA convocation.
