Lansdowne St. named third worst in Eastern Ontario
Lansdowne Street in Peterborough has been awarded the dubious distinction of being the third worst road in Eastern Ontario.
Results of the Canadian Automobile Association’s annual Worst Roads poll were released Monday.
The top spot in the Eastern Ontario category was won by County Road 49 in Prince Edward County and second place went to Belleville’s Avondale Road. County Road 49 has held the top spot in the Eastern Ontario category for the past three years.
While there’s no strict criteria for nominations, roads filled with potholes, poor road signs or anything else that could be a nuisance for motorists and pedestrians, are eligible to make the list.
Last year Lansdowne Street placed second in the regional category and Otonabee Drive nabbed third, so there has been some positive movement on the list for Peterborough. Kingston rounds out the top five list for Eastern Ontario, with Queen Street in fourth and King Street West coming in fifth.
For the second year in a row, the worst road in Ontario is Burlington Street East in Hamilton. Prince Edward County’s County Road 49, which has appeares on the list multiple times, shot up the list from the 10th spot to second place.
The CAA says Burlington Street East has risen progressively higher up the top 10 list since it first appeared on the list in 2009.
Taking third place was Duckworth Street in Barrie, Ont., which appeared on the list last year and holds top spot as the worst road in central Ontario.
Avondale Road in Belleville, Ont., and Eglinton Avenue West in Toronto round out the top five.
More than 3,500 roads were nominated from across the province this year, and the CAA says 75 per cent of respondents cited potholes as the reason for nominating a road.
