Bantam Laker girls win K-W Lax Angels title
The Peterborough Bantam Lakers girls box lacrosse team showed off their talents by coming home undefeated from their first tournament of the season in Kitchener-Waterloo.
After winning all three of their local zone games, the Lakers felt fairly confident entering the K-W Lax Angels lacrosse tournament on May 25 to 27.
The tournament started on May 25 with a 10-0 shutout win for the Lakers against an outmatched team.
On May 26 the girls blanked the Whitby Warriors 2 10-0 and the K-W Braves 5-1.
For the final on Sunday against K-W Braves, the Lakers started off slow. The team relied heavily on their goalie in the first period to keep their lead 1-0.
The Lakers had eight of their 15 players play two field lacrosse games later in the day on Saturday afternoon as well as playing their tournament games — causing them to be exhausted for the final Sunday.
In the beginning of the second period, the Braves tied the game due to good ball movement and their tough offensive zone.
The Braves came to avenge their prior day’s loss.
This was the first time the Lakers had lost their lead this season. It shocked the girls and helped them find new-found energy in the third period.
The third period ended up being one sided and the game ended 5-1 for Peterborough.
With a stellar performance from the K-W goalie, the game could have ended much worst than it did for the Braves.
On Friday, seven of the Peterborough Lakers attended the last Team Ontario tryouts.
