Toddler burned after falling into campfire at Emily park

A GoFundMe campaign quickly reached its goal to help a family whose daughter was burned while camping.

On June 2, Tyler Lyon and Sarah Read were visiting friends at a campsite when their young daughter tripped and fell into a campfire.

“They literally took our eyes off of her for two seconds,” reads the GoFundMe post put up by Read.

“We heard one of the little boys yelling for us, saying Emily was in the fire so Tyler ran over and pulled Emily out. She was still on fire at the time and we quickly had to rip her clothes off to stop it.

“I never want to hear my baby scream like that again. Unfortunately, that image and sound will forever be stuck in our minds.

The family rushed to Sick Kids Hospital where medical staff assessed the little girl’s third-degree burns on both palms of her hands and the top of her buttocks and lower back.

“We heard from a plastic surgeon and there is a possibility she will be having skin graph surgery in the next couple days,” Read writes.

“Sick Kids will be our home for the next little while and any little bit will help. She is the most happy and loving little girl and even through this horrible horrible accident she still has that Emily smile and giggle we all know and love. I don’t ever want her to change.”

The family asked for $1,000 for extra expenses and to cover Lyon’s time off work during her recovery. Nineteen people contributed that amount over eight days.

Now that the fund has reached its goal, the couple wanted to alert other parents to how quickly accidents like this can happen so they will be vigilant around fires.

“Thank you everyone who has helped us this far and for all the support,” Read writes.

“We wouldn’t be able to do this without our family and friends. And a special thank you to Colton, the brave little boy that in my eyes saved my baby girl’s life.“
