Trent Torpedo Swim Club finishes strong
Young swimmers win gold, silver and bronze
The Trent Torpedo Swim Club is finishing its competitive season at a very high level.
The Torpedoa had a great U13 provincial championship; Mackenzie Garside, Tanner HarrisBarton and Maxeen Mullen all swam personal best times. It was the first provincial championship for Harris-Burton.
Harris-Barton took off a total of 12 seconds in two races and moved up to eighth in the 10 and under 50 Butterfly. Maxeen Mullen earned a seventh in the 100 breaststroke and Mackenzie Garside earned a sixth in the 200 breaststroke and an eighth in the 200 breaststroke.
The top age groupers finished their season at an important invitational in Collingwood. The young Torpedoes had 15 medals and 40 top 8 finishes there.
The team was led by HarrisBarton with three golds and three silver, Rowan Campbell had two golds and one bronze, J.D. Mitchell had earned one gold and one silver, Jayda Sutton claimed one gold and one bronze, Hannah Gazzard won one gold and Elise Furgal took home one bronze. The U10 boys earned a gold and a silver in relay events.
It was the Age Group Torpedo team’s best finish in a few years.
At the Ontario AA Championship the 13 and over Torpedoes had a phenomenal meet.
The team brought home nine medals and 15 top 10 finishes. Rachel Chayer won two golds and one bronze, Mackenzie Garside won two golds, Samuel LoureiroKent earned one silver and one bronze, Maxeen Mullen and Ryder Elmhirst each had bronze.
Rachel Chayer, Mackenzie Garside and Maxeen Mullen qualified for the Canadian Junior Championships, which start Wednesday in Winnipeg and continue until Monday.
With four swimmers qualified for the Canadian Junior Championships the Trent Torpedoes have more swimmers at a Canadian championship than the club has had in the past eight years.
