Cobourg man accused of sex assaults on a boy

COBOURG — A 51-year-old Cobourg man who has owned and operated several restaurant­s is facing sexual assault charges involving a minor following a Durham Regional Police investigat­ion into incidents between 2001 and 2006.

A man came forward in July to say that he was sexually assaulted three times while he was a boy by a man during the period between January 2001 and June 2006, police said.

Police said Friday that Todd Reader, 51, of Cobourg, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual interferen­ce and exposing himself to a child under 14. He was held in custody for a bail hearing. Reader owned and operated several restaurant­s, including one in Cobourg, police said.
