Church hosts plant sale just in time for fall

Funds from event go to support church trip to Honduras

- CAROLINE MCCONNELL Northcrest_column@yahoo.ca

September is just around the corner and that means it’s time for the ever-popular annual Yard and Plant Sale at Grace United Church, 581 Howden St. Mark the date on your calendar: Sept. 8. The fun starts at 7 a.m. and runs until noon.

All proceeds from the sale will go to support a November 2018 trip to Honduras. 13 people from the church and the community will travel to Nuevo Paraiso to build new washroom facilities at the elementary school there. For over 10 years a group from the church, under the guidance of Peterborough’s Friends of Honduran Children, has travelled to Honduras, building homes and schools and taking school supplies to many rural mountain schools.

During the sale, the parking lot will be full of treasures for all ages, including items such as glassware, toys, books, furniture, sporting goods, craft items and, of course, plants.

Bins for scrap metal and old electronics such as televisions and stereos will be located in the back corner of the parking lot from Sept. 4 until the end of the sale. Items can be dropped off any of those days.

And you won’t go hungry at the sale! Grace Scouting members will be cooking up peameal on a bun and burgers. Enjoy one for a delicious breakfast or lunch.

For further information contact the church office at 705-7425846.

Come and check out the sale and help make this year’s Honduras build trip a huge success.
