Farmers’ markets get ready for harvest

Downtown markets run Wednesdays and Saturdays

Now is the time to stock up on all the wonderful tastes of summer and fresh seasonal produce such as beans, tomatoes, potatoes, beets, carrots, peppers and of course, corn-on-the-cob.

The Peterborou­gh Downtown Farmers’ Market runs every Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., until October, on Charlotte Street, between George and Aylmer streets. This is a producerso­nly market and shoppers buy direct from the farmers, growers, bakers and chefs themselves. The market also features fresh flowers, baked goods, coffee and lunches to go. The Peterborou­gh Regional Farmers’ Market runs every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Citi-Centre Courtyard, located at 307 Aylmer St. Primary producers make up 60% of the vendors at this market; the other 40 per cent of vendors are bakers, preparedfo­od vendors, artists and community groups. Reading Club wrap-up

The TD Children’s Summer Reading Club at the Peterborou­gh Public Library wraps up on Wednesday with an End of Summer Celebratio­n. The fun gets underway at 10:30 a.m. and runs until noon in the Friends of the Library Community Room. Enjoy stories, songs, door prizes, parent prizes and special guests. The Grand Prize Winners of the Summer Reading Club will also be announced. Pizza and Central Smith Ice Cream will be served, while supplies last. The Peterborou­gh Public Library is redesignin­g their website and is looking for the community’s help. Participan­ts are needed for their Sitemap Focus Group, which will meet Thursday Sept. 13 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Opinions of this group will help shape the new website. Summer Family Film

Due to rainy weather, the free outdoor screening of the movie The Sandlot has been reschedule­d for Friday at 8 p.m. in Millennium Park. This event is the last in the 2018 Summer Family Film Series, presented by Ben Van Veen Century 21. Millennium Park is located at King and Water Streets. Art and Craft Show

The Nightlight­s Art and Craft Show presents a pop-up handmade market, Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Display room behind the Silver Bean Cafe in Millennium Park. The market will feature artwork, handmade gifts, knitted items, toys, soap, beauty products and jewelry, crafted by local artists and artisans.

Children’s Chorus auditions

The Peterborou­gh Children’s Chorus is accepting new choristers for the upcoming year. The Chorus is open to all children from age 8 to 25 living in Peterborou­gh and the surroundin­g area. Auditions are 10 minutes each and children can sing a song of their choosing. Auditions take place Tuesday Sept. 4 and Monday Sept. 10 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. and can be scheduled by emailing office@peterborou­ghchildren­schorus.com.
