Charges laid in Sunday robbery

A 34-year-old Stewart Street man faces several charges after a Sunday morning knifepoint robbery at a McDonnel Street convenienc­e store.

A man wielding two knives entered the store at about 5:30 a.m. before demanding the clerk hand over all available cash, city police stated. The employee complied before the suspect fled the store.

A suspect was identified and then located sitting outside a George Street restaurant, where he was arrested about four hours later, police stated. A prohibited knife and a quantity of marijuana were seized.

The accused is bound by a weapon prohibitio­n order, police said.

Duncan James Corbiere was charged with robbery with theft, unauthoriz­ed possession of a weapon, possession of marijuana under 30 grams, possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibitio­n order and failing to comply with a probation order.

He was to appear in court later in the day Monday.
