Marshall’s staves off elimination with win
Marshall’s staved off elimination in the Peterborough Men’s Softball Association city league finals with a 3-2 win over Terry’s Gas and Variety Thursday night at the George (Red) Sullivan East City Bowl.
Winning pitcher Chris Van Volkenberg had nine strikeouts while Terry’s Gas and Variety pitcher Matt Leahy also had nine strikeouts.
Marshall’s took a 3-0 lead before Terry’s clawed back to make it 3-2. Marshall’s had the bases loaded in the third inning when Terry’s pulled off a triple play. Greg Watts, Cam Heffernan, Nick Julian and Steve Canning had hits for Marshall’s while Garry Manley, Justin Taylor and Justin Cain had hits for Terry’s.
Terry’s leads the series 3-1.
Game 5 goes Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the George (Red) Sullivan East City Bowl.
