Bennett holding mayoral campaign party Sept. 7
The municipal election is about seven weeks away and soon the campaigns will begin in earnest.
The City of Peterborough will be allowing candidates to start displaying election signs on Monday.
There are also some public gatherings being organized: Mayor Daryl Bennett, who is running for re-election against Coun. Diane Therrien, is having a campaign kick-off party Sept. 7.
The party will be at the Peterborough Naval Association hall on Whitla St. from 7:30 p.m. to midnight.
“It’s not about fundraising or speeches, it’s a fun raiser,” Bennett wrote in an email.
“It’s a kick-off party and an opportunity for us to have conversations with each other about how we want to build on the progress that we’re making together as a community. Residents are invited to join us to enjoy each other’s company with some food, music and dancing.”
Therrien is holding a fundraiser on Oct. 11, although no details were available on Thursday regarding the time or location. The municipal election is Oct. 22. lobby of a police station.
A man is facing charges after threats were made to kill a woman, city police said.
The woman was asleep in her bed Thursday when a man, who she was in an onand off-again relationship with, jumped on top of her and threatened three times to kill her, police said.
She then fled the home, fearing for her safety, police said.
Officers arrived and while they were speaking to the woman she received a phone call from the man, police said. It turns out the man had went to the lobby of the Water St. police station to use the phone to call her, police said.
He was then arrested at the police station. A 45-year-old man was charged with uttering threats (domestic) and breach of probation.
He was held in custody for a court appearance Friday.
City police did not name the man to protect the woman’s identity.
