Man died after interaction with OPP in Dalrymple
SIU investigating Sunday incident
DALYRYMPLE — The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating after a 35-year-old man died after an interaction with City of Kawartha Lakes OPP officers in Dalrymple, about 100 kilometres northwest of Peterborough.
Shortly after noon on Sunday, OPP officers responded to an address in Dalrymple for a man in distress, according to the SIU.
About one kilometre away, in a secluded area, officers found the man without vital signs, the SIU stated. First aid was provided to the man and he was taken by paramedics to hospital.
The man was pronounced dead at 4:25 p.m., the SIU stated.
An autopsy is planned for Tuesday in Toronto to determine the cause of death.
Two SIU investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the investigation.
The SIU is urging anyone who may have information about the man’s death to contact the lead investigator at 1-800-787-8529.
The unit is also urging anyone who may have any video evidence related to this incident to upload that video through the SIU website.
The arm’s length agency investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
Under the Police Services Act, the Director of the SIU must consider whether an officer has committed a criminal offence in connection with the incident under investigation-depending on the evidence, lay a criminal charge against the officer if appropriate or close the file without any charges being laid report the results of any investigations to the Attorney General.
