Cuylle scores a pair in Spitfires debut
The Peterborough Petes signed their first-round 2018 OHL Under-18 Draft pick Dustin Hutton, the club announced on Saturday.
Hutton, a five-foot-nine, 147pound left wing, was selected third overall in the U18 draft.
The Etobicoke native recorded 51 goals and 58 assists for 109 points in 70 games with the Vaughan Midget AAA Kings last season.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling finally becoming a part of this team,” Hutton stated in a Petes press release.
“It’s a dream come true to play in this league and I’m excited that it’s with the Peterborough Petes.”
“We’re pleased that Dustin has committed to playing in the OHL for the Petes,” stated Petes GM Mike Oke.
“As our first-round pick in this year’s U18 draft, he came into training camp and showed off his skill and speed. Our coaches look forward to working with him and continuing his development.”
Additionally, forward Graeme McCrory was reassigned to the Newmarket Jr. A Hurricanes.
The Petes have 27 players on their pre-season roster including three goalies, eight defencemen and 16 forwards.
Cuylle shines in Spitfires debut
Will Cuylle, the defected Petes first-round draft pick traded to Windsor on Friday, scored two goals and added the shootout winner in his Spitfires pre-season debut on Saturday, a 5-4 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs.
Cuylle scored again Sunday in Windsor’s 7-4 win over Flint.
Martin with Sarnia
Peterborough native Calvin Martin is trying out for the Sarnia Sting.
Last season, Martin requested his release from the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds due to a lack of playing time. He finished the season with the QMJHL’s Val d’Or Foreurs scoring two
goals and five points in 28 games.
Franche joins Generals
The Oshawa Generals signed defenceman Matthieu Franche as a free agent. Franche’s parents Marc and Lisa Franche, are former Peterborough residents and Petes billets.

Five Petes will head to NHL rookie camps and tournaments this week.
Cole Fraser, Zach Gallant and Pavel Gogolev will join the Detroit Red Wings, Semyon DerArguchintsev the Toronto Maple Leafs and Declan Chisholm the Winnipeg Jets.
