Rock the Locks drew crowds from abroad

Quilt show Sept. 7-9 at the Buckhorn Community Centre

- MARLYS KERKMAN SPECIAL TO THE EXAMINER kerkmam@gmail.com

Rock the Locks, an annual event produced by the Buckhorn Community Centre, returned to Buckhorn on Aug. 25.

There was something for everyone! A pirate bouncer for those inclined to slide and bounce, balloon animals, bubbles and hopping balls were on one side of the locks.

On the other side of the locks there were free pontoon boat rides, face painting, a petting zoo, vendors of stained glass, mobiles, maple syrup and all things crafty. Information booths for the Peterborough Power and Sail Squadron, Buckhorn Trails Association, Parks Canada, the OPP and the local fire department were ready to inform you of their activities.

There was an art activity zone at the church and games for kids at the library. Antique cars were available for all to view and after the viewing you could have your lunch at St. Matthews/St. Aidan’s barbecue.

It was an event in the community including cottagers from all parts of North America and those living permanently in the area. If you didn’t make it this year put it on your calendar for next.

Candidate Ron Windover

Ron Windover is running for the position of Deputy Mayor in Trent Lakes. Windover having served two terms as Deputy Mayor, one term as councillor at large and one term as councillor for Harvey before amalgamation, regards experience an important part of his candidacy.

Because of his experience he has developed close relations with the Peterborough County council. Ron believes that understanding the relationships between the different government levels is essential when making important decisions.

Windover has owned and operated a successful business, Buckhorn Landscaping, for over 40 years. Being born and raised in this community he has a strong interest in helping to develop the community and listening to the concerns of taxpayers and residents.

Becoming aware of these concerns is important to Ron as he says there are often two sides to every issue affecting those in the different hamlets as well as the communities and to best serve the tax payer he needs to be aware of them all.
