Pat Larock Early Bird tourney draws 55 teams

The Peterborou­gh Minor Hockey Council will be hosting the Pat Larock Memorial Kawartha Early Bird Tournament from Friday to Sunday.

The pre-season tournament will bring 55 AAA hockey teams from novice to minor peewee to kickstart the 2018-19 hockey season. Games will be played at a number of area arenas, including the Evinrude Centre, Kinsmen Arena, Northcrest Arena, and the Asphodel-Norwood Community Centre with the action starting at 8 a.m. Friday.

“Our tournament committee is energized and excited to host and oversee the Pat Larock Memorial Tournament,” stated PMHC president Mike Martone.

“We are able to showcase the AAA Minor Petes as a first-class organizati­on and provide these players with an environmen­t where they can compete at the highest possible level in their division.”

“Competitio­n will be at a premium and the tournament gives these teams an opportunit­y to get on the road, see different competitio­n and bond together.”

The tourney is expected to draw 2,000 visitors to Peterborou­gh city and county over the three days.
