Items stolen from cars

-

City police have arrested a local man after items were stolen from vehicles in the city’s south end. Police were called early Saturday morning to deal with a man seen rummaging through vehicles in the Otonabee Drive area. The man was gone when police arrived, but another call soon came in about a man searching vehicles on Haggart Street. Police found a man entering the backyard of a Ware Street home soon after.

Daniel John Laundry, 30, of no fixed address, Peterborough, was charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, two counts of failing to comply with a probation order and failing to comply with a recognizance.

Police searched a duffel bag carried by the man and found items taken in recent thefts from vehicles and a break-in.

Laundry was then further charged with 10 counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and a further count of failing to comply with a probation order.

He was held in custody and appeared in court Tuesday.
