Harvest meal coming to downtown Millbrook

- EXAMINER STAFF

MILLBROOK — Cavan Monaghan Township is serving up a big meal.

A block of King Street in Millbrook will be closed to traffic Sept. 22 for the Harvest Table Dinner, an event being held to raise funds for the new Cavan Monaghan community centre.

The township is working with Ontario Lottery and Gaming and Peterborough and the Kawarthas Tourism to host the meal in Millbrook’s downtown, featuring food grown by local producers and prepared by Peterborough chefs Tres Hombres. Craft brewers Publican House and Smithavens and craft wineries Rolling Grape and Rosehall Run will provide beverages.

The ingredients will be come from local farms, including Circle Organic, Little Leaf, Traynor Farms, Silver Creek Farms, Pine Haven and others.

The dinner, which will see tables set up on the street, runs from 4:30 to 9 p.m. It will resemble a similar event held each year in Warkworth, the Long Lunch.

“It has long been a vision of both council and staff to host an event that celebrates our rural heritage and our local agricultural producers,” stated Cavan Monaghan Mayor Scott McFadden in a release.

“As we are moving forward with the construction of the community centre, we thought this event would be a perfect fundraiser for the new multi-use facility.”

The township is working to raise funds for its new community centre, projected to cost $15 million

“Supporting such worthwhile community initiatives that seek to enrich the lives of people in Cavan Monaghan, and across the province, is one of our core missions” stated Jake Pastore, OLG’s director of municipal and community relations, in a release
