Cheming Lions host charity golf event in

The Chemung Lake District Lions will host a charity golf tournament this Sunday at Tamarac Golf and Country Club, located at 155 Ennis Rd. in Ennismore. All proceeds will support Community Care Chemung. The tournament will be a four-person, best ball event with a 12 p.m. shotgun start. The cost is $90 and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, and post-tournament meal of burgers, hot dogs and fries, as well as prizes. Registrati­on forms are available at Tamarac or by visiting www.commcarept­bo.org/events.

The Chemung Lake District Lions will be hosting a charity auction at their Cruise Night this evening at 5 p.m. at the Lions Park in Bridgenort­h. It will be a silent auction featuring goods and services from local businesses during the car show. The final draw will be at 7:30 p.m. and, in case of rain, the event will be moved to Sept. 17.

Community Care Lakefield

Community Care Lakefield will have a Walker and Wheelchair Clinic from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sept. 19 at 40 Rabbit St. in Lakefield.

The clinic is free, and no appointmen­t is necessary. Bring your walker or wheelchair in for a fall tune-up with a motion specialtie­s technician.

Lakefield Horticultu­ral Society

This Tuesday, the Lakefield Horticultu­ral Society will present a session on Community Vegetable Gardening: Growing Your Own Food. It will be at 7 p.m. at the Marshland Centre in Lakefield. Trent University students Juliana Van Der Heide and Elora Tarlo will share their experience and expertise.

Selwyn Public Library

This Saturday at 10 a.m. there will be a Highlights of Lakefield Trail Walk in the village. Participan­ts will meet the Lakefield Trail Stewardshi­p Committee at the Lakefield Library (2 Queen Street) and then walk the trail. Register in advance by calling the Lakefield Library at 705-652-8623.

There will be two Fall Book Sales to support your public library.

The first will be on Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in front of the OPP station in Bridgenort­h (826 Ward Street, Bridgenort­h). The second one will be on Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the lower level of the Ennismore Library (551 Ennis Road, Ennismore).

All books are sold by donation and support the Selwyn Public Library.

Registrati­on is now open for Fall Children’s Programs at the Selwyn Public Library. All programs are offered for free, and spaces are limited. Registrati­on and can be found online at www.mypublicli­brary.ca.

Fall Preschool Storytime for ages 3 and up begins the week of Sept. 11 and will run for 8 weeks. It will be from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. on Tuesdays in Lakefield and Wednesdays in Bridgenort­h.

There will be a Drop-In Saturday Storytime for all ages at the Regency Retirement Home in Lakefield, located at 91 Concession Street. It will start Sept. 15 and be on the third Saturday of each month until March with an additional program on April 19. Storytime will be from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. and will include songs, activities and a snack.

There will be P.A. Day Programs on Sept. 28 in Bridgenort­h. First will be the Fancy Nancy Picnic from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. rain or shine for ages 3 and up.

Then from 1:30 to 2 p.m. there will be a LEGO Animal Build for ages 6 and up where you can build an animal step-by-step. From 2 to 3 p.m. there will be a LEGO Block Party for ages 4 and up with the library’s giant LEGO collection.

Kawartha Historical Society

The Kawartha Historical Society is having an event on Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. at St. James Anglican Church in Fenelon Falls.

Author Gail Corbett will discuss the Peterborou­gh-born poet Katherine Wallis, who lived from 1854 to 1961.
