- PAT MARCHEN KeeneNews@nexicom.net

Let your fingers do the walking at the next municipal election, because your feet will have nowhere to go.

Internet voting has come to Otonabee - South Monaghan Township. Voters will cast their ballots by phone or computer. There is no polling station, but a Help Station with computer and phone will be set up at the Township office. The election is Oct. 22. Voting starts Oct. 9. Your PIN number and instructions will arrive the old-fashioned way, by Canada Post.

Pioneer funding

A $1,000 boost from Pioneer Canada will benefit the OSM Food Cupboard’s efforts to get fresh fruit and vegetables to local tables. The parent company, Dupont Pioneer, and Glen Isle Farms of Keene are behind the funding and dropped off a big cheque at the Pioneer Women’s Day Luncheon Aug. 8 at Lang.

Pioneer’s “Growing Today, Leading Tomorrow” program encourages agricultural education, farm safety and food security initiatives for youth in rural communities across Canada.

Norwood in Keene

Fellow Examiner columnist Jeff Dornan will be the guest speaker at the next OSM Historical Society meeting.

The 150-year-old Norwood Fair is the topic and since Jeff is the fair archivist and has been on the fair board since the last millennium, he will be able to answer each and every one of your questions about the history of the Norwood Fair. The meeting is at the Keene library, Tues., Sept 25 at 7:30 p.m.

Diary of a farmer

1883. Sept. 10, Mon. Last night was very cold and we had the heaviest frost that I ever remember seeing at this time. Oats that were not ripe were entirely ruined and our grapes, tomatoes, cucumbers and other tender garden stuff entirely cut-down. 1900 Sept. 10, Mon. We filled our silo today. I had Hazlitt and his man and team and Rose and team and James Duffus and his two sons and two teams and machine and my own three hired men in the silo all the time and any less won’t do.
