Peterborough Singers seeking voices

Aces of Harmony looking for men who like to sing

- CAROLINE MCCONNELL Northcrest_column@yahoo.ca

The Aces of Harmony invite new singers to join them. If you are looking for a fun way to spend an evening, why not drop by and try a Cappella singing, a relaxing hobby where you can blend your voice with other singers around you. The male chorus and quartets of all ages sing songs from many eras.

“The sounds of four-part harmony will make you smile and forget your troubles,” says Fred Rapson, a member of the chorus.

Join the Aces Mondays at 7:30 p.m. at Northminster Church, 300 Sunset Blvd. Parking and entrance are at the back of the church.

Naturalist outings

The Peterborough Field Naturalists’ (PFN) annual outing to Presqu’ile Provincial Park to view migrating shorebirds and monarchs takes place Saturday.

The leaders for this outing are PFN members Martin Parker and Matthew Tobey. There is an early departure to increase the opportunities of seeing shorebirds prior to them being disturbed by falcons and people.

The group will visit viewing locations in the southern end of the beach to see gathered migrating shorebirds who are making their migration from their Arctic breeding grounds to their wintering areas, primarily in the southern hemisphere.

As fall migrations of Monarch butterflies are also commencing, park staff will conduct a demonstration on Monarch banding. Time will also be spent looking for other fall butterflies.

Meet at Tim Hortons in Sobeys Plaza, Lansdowne St.W. at 7 a.m. The outing will return to Peterborough midafternoon. Bring a packed lunch, binoculars, camera, and telescope (if you have one).

Also, the regular PFN weekly wildlife walk takes place Sunday. It will be led by PFN member Martin Parker and last about three hours. Meet at the Riverview Park and Zoo at 8 a.m. to carpool. Bring binoculars, gas money, dress for the weather.
