Plug pulled on electric car buyer

-

My family got burnt by Honda and Ford. Doug Ford, that is. And so did the planet. In March, I put a deposit on a Honda Clarity, a plug-in hybrid electric car. The salesman said he had "a good feeling it would be available by July" but could not guarantee it. I had a car charger installed at home. Ontario government rebates would help defray the costs for this and the car.

Months went by. No car. Then, Doug Ford was elected and cancelled the electric car incentive. In order to get the rebate for the car or charger, the car had to arrive by Sept. 10. It did not. Honda's inability to deliver a car in six months, combined with Doug Ford's regressive environmental policies, have been very expensive for my family. More importantly, it's an example of how corporations and populist leaders are out of sync with consumers' desire to support a green economy. George Fogarasi, King St.
