City po­lice seek aux­il­iary po­lice of­fi­cer re­cruits

City po­lice have launched a re­cruit­ment drive for vol­un­teers to serve as aux­il­iary of­fi­cers in the com­mu­nity.

A re­cruit­ment in­for­ma­tion ses­sion will be held Sept. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Knights of Colum­bus Hall at 317 Hunter St. W.

The clos­ing date for ap­pli­ca­tions is Oct. 26.

Mem­bers of the unit vol­un­teer thou­sands of hours an­nu­ally to the com­mu­ni­ties of Peterborough, Lake­field and Ca­van Mon­aghan Town­ship.

Most vol­un­teer aux­il­iary of­fi­cers hold full-time jobs.

Their role in­cludes: as­sist­ing at pa­rades, spe­cial events and with our RIDE pro­grams, pro­vid­ing in­for­ma­tion on crime pre­ven­tion and fa­cil­i­tat­ing crime pre­ven­tions pro­grams such as the Home­guard In­spec­tion pro­gram, con­duct­ing car seat in­stal­la­tions and work­ing along­side our front­line of­fi­cers dur­ing reg­u­lar po­lice pa­trols, the re­lease states. Aux­il­iary mem­bers are se­lected on the ba­sis of their abil­ity to com­plete the train­ing pro­gram, the re­lease states, and their avail­abil­ity for ser­vice all year. Mem­bers must vol­un­teer a min­i­mum of 12 hours each month, at­tend reg­u­lar in-ser­vice train­ing ses­sions and com­mit to a two-year vol­un­teer term.
