City police seek auxiliary police officer recruits
City police have launched a recruitment drive for volunteers to serve as auxiliary officers in the community.
A recruitment information session will be held Sept. 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 317 Hunter St. W.
The closing date for applications is Oct. 26.
Members of the unit volunteer thousands of hours annually to the communities of Peterborough, Lakefield and Cavan Monaghan Township.
Most volunteer auxiliary officers hold full-time jobs.
Their role includes: assisting at parades, special events and with our RIDE programs, providing information on crime prevention and facilitating crime preventions programs such as the Homeguard Inspection program, conducting car seat installations and working alongside our frontline officers during regular police patrols, the release states. Auxiliary members are selected on the basis of their ability to complete the training program, the release states, and their availability for service all year. Members must volunteer a minimum of 12 hours each month, attend regular in-service training sessions and commit to a two-year volunteer term.
