Mid­get AA Ice Kats face Amer­i­can teams at tour­ney

The Peterborough Mid­get AA Ice Kats par­tic­i­pated in the 64-team Stoney Creek Mid­get AA Show­case Tour­na­ment over the week­end against five Amer­i­can teams to start their sea­son.

The Ice Kats dropped their opener Fri­day morn­ing to the Mil­wau­kee Jr. Ad­mi­rals 2-1. Han­nah Kawalec scored from Jilly MacIver.

McIver’s goal with 37 sec­onds left gave Peterborough a 1-1 tie with Team Illi­nois in Game 2. So­phy Wood was strong in goal while Syd­ney Paul­son and Ali­cia Wake added as­sists.

Peterborough beat the Chicago Young Amer­i­cans 1-0 on Satur­day morn­ing. MacIver scored as­sisted by Kawalec and Paul­son. Goal­tender Maddy Roche reg­is­tered the shutout.

They then lost 4-1 to Chicago Mis­sion. Paul­son scored from Maddy O’Neill-Hawthorne.

Peterborough com­pleted the tour­ney Sun­day morn­ing, los­ing 2-0 to the Min­nesota Blades.

“We had the rare op­por­tu­nity to play state teams from large Amer­i­can cities,” said coach Mark McArthur.

“The girls played hard and it has given us a good pic­ture of what we need to im­prove on as we move to­ward.”

The Mid­get AA Ice Kats visit the Kingston Ice Wolves in ex­hi­bi­tion play Fri­day night.
