St. John offers first aid classes for fall season

St. John Ambulance has scheduled several first aid courses for October, happening at the Peterborough Lions community centre, 347 Burnham Street.

Here’s a look at the lineup. Classes in standard first aid with level A CPR are slated for Oct. 3 to Oct. 4; Oct. 10 to Oct. 11; Oct. 17 to Oct. 18 and Oct. 24 to Oct. 25 at the Lions centre. Times are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Standard first aid with level C CPR has an extra hour of training and includes training for adult, child and infant CPR This class has the same dates and locations. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Cost is $159 for level A and $179 for level C.

Emergency First Aid: The emergency first aid course provides 6.5 hours of basic first aid training with CPR and AED procedures.

Emergency first aid classes with level A CPR happen Oct. 3; Oct. 10; Oct. 17 and Oct. 24 at the Lions Centre. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $110 for level A or $120 for level C.

Emergency first aid with level C CPR and AED runs on the same dates. This class runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

If you can’t attend day courses, SJA also offers weekend and evening sessions at their facility on the lower level of Applewood Manor, 1500 Lansdowne St. W.

Weekend class dates for standard first aid are: Oct. 13 to Oct. 14; Oct. 29 to Oct. 21 and Oct. 27 to Oct. 28 at Applewood. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.

Weekend courses in emergency first aid are slated for Oct. 13; Oct. 29 and Oct. 27 at Applewood.

Renewals: Do you need to recertify your current standard first aid certificate? There is a standard first aid renewal class slated for Oct. 23 at the Lions centre, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m for level A or 8:30 to 5 p.m. for Level C. Cost is $110.

Babysitting Basics: SJA has added a babysitting course later this month. It runs Sept. 28 from 8:30 to 3:30 at the Lions Centre.

The workshop is for youths 11 to 15 years old and develops skills in safety rules, responding to emergencies and leadership.

Students learn how to care for infants and toddlers; sick or injured children and handling emergencies. Cost is $69 and includes a workbook. All first aid training is valid for three years. For details or to register, contact SJA at 705-745-0331.
