High winds likely Friday
Environment Canada issued a special weather statement Thursday afternoon advising of expected strong winds in Peterborough and the Kawarthas on Friday
“Strong westerly winds are forecast to develop in association with a frontal passage Friday,” the special weather statement said as of 3:15 p.m. Thursday. “Wind gusts of 70 to 80 km/h are expected in the afternoon and early evening, with higher winds possible in thunderstorms.” A high of 27 C, feeling more like 35 C with the humidity, is also expected Friday before things cool down for the weekend and the official start of the fall season on Saturday night.
Normal temperatures for this time of the year in Peterborough are a high of 18 C and a low of 7 C. The Level 1 water condition remains in effect from Otonabee Conservation for the Otonabee River and Kawartha lakes watershed, with residents and business continuing to be urged to curb their water use voluntarily by 10 per cent because of this season’s dry conditions.
