Paquette runner-up for OHL player of the week

Peterborou­gh Petes forward Christophe­r Paquette was edged of the Ontario Hockey League player of the week award for the opening week of the season.

The OHL announced Akil Thomas of the Niagara IceDogs as the winner for scoring a goal with four assists for five points and a plus-3 in one game.

Paquette was also considered for the award for scoring four goals and an assist over two games, along with Brandon Saigeon of the Hamilton Bulldogs for scoring two goals with five assists in two games.

Hunter Jones backstoppe­d the Petes in both of their wins, picking up his first career shutout in the process while amassing a goals-against-average of 1.50 and save percentage of .962 from an overall OHL opening week high of 75 saves, the OHL reported.
