Beef farmers gather for Woodville informatio­n night

Experts on handto speak on effect of antimicrob­ials on cattle

Victoria Beef Farmers will host an informatio­n meeting, Thursday at Kawartha Lakes Sales Barn, 580 Woodville Rd, Woodville. There will be a soup and sandwich buffet at 6 p.m., cash donations accepted for Kawartha Haliburton 4H Associatio­n.

At 7 p.m. Dr. Dan Shock will speak on Effects of Antimicrob­ials on Cattle followed by Antimicrob­ial Access, Use and Stewardshi­p for Beef Farmers by the Animal Health and Welfare Branch of OMAFR.

If you have young people who might be interested in Scouting but don’t know what it entails, 1st Omemee Scouting will host an Open House, Oct. 11, 6:30 p.m. at Lady Eaton Elementary School. Parents, guardians and youth are invited to come and attend a meeting, hear about activities and have your questions answered.

If you have never curled and want to take up Canada’s sport, the Centre has a Learn to Curl program, Mondays, 7-9 p.m. at a cost of $275 for the entire season. The program includes complete instructio­n as well as a fun league.

Election

There will be an all-candidates meeting for Ward 6 Oct. 11 at 7:30 pm at Coronation Hall. The evening will be hosted by Alex CrichThe ton. There are seven candidates running for the seat in this ward including the two incumbents so the evening will give you an opportunit­y to hear from them and their positions on various topics.

Community Care

The Community Care of City of Kawartha Lakes offers many invaluable services to the residents of our area. The office number is 705-324-7323.

Footcare is available to seniors and residents with special needs. An appointmen­t is necessary and can be made by calling 705-8794100 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The clinic is held at Remedy RX, 108 Kent St.W., Lindsay. Upcoming clinics are Mondays and Tuesdays.

Meals on Wheels are available at a nominal cost for residents of Omemee and Downeyvill­e.

Exercises in partnershi­p with Closing the Gap Healthcare are held at 8 James St. Mondays and Trinity United Church Thursdays. Call the office for details of times.

Exercises for seniors (SAGES) will be held at Dunsford United Church, 1981 Sturgeon Rd., Wednesdays, 10 am and at Victoria Armouries, 210 Kent St. W., 11 am.

Community Care along with Hospice Services coordinate­s many different support groups. All groups are free of charge and welcome any resident of City of Kawartha Lakes. Upcoming groups include the following:
